Meet the team: Delfina Utomo

Born in Singapore but raised all over the world, Delfina owes Indonesia for her steel stomach and bad humour, Singapore for her anxiety and speed reading mastery, the UK for a very unhealthy quiz show obsession, and the Netherlands for...well, nothing.

What do you do all day at Time Out?
I am the editor at Time Out Singapore so I oversee all content on our site, plan for content, sub the content and when I am blessed with time, I also write content. I manage a team of talented writers who I enjoy working with day in, day out, and they keep me alive with their ideas, recommendations on things to do and what to eat, and TikTok content.

When you're not in the Time Out office creating magic, what are you up to?
I'm often found hiking, going off-trail and taking ridiculously long walks in my free time. I find trekking in Singapore a fascinating thing because everything is so polished and structured which encourages me to always go further and explore the unknown and hidden spots. My dad taught me to read a map well which is something I'm proud of but with great 4G coverage in Singapore, Google Maps is all I need.

Which international destination will you be jet-setting off to first once border restrictions ease?
Japan, and especially in the fall. I love the fresh produce there and the countryside, which we don't have here...need to take a break from all the tall buildings and city life!

If we couldn't get a hold of you, where should we go looking first?
I've been spending a lot of time in Little India these days and I love it for its eateries – I have a favourite shop/stall for dosa, teh tarik and vadai now – and there's also so much to do in the area like check out street murals, get fresh produce from Tekka Market or the late-night stalls along Desker Road and get your eyebrows threaded for cheap.

What are you really into right now?
Because of the pandemic, I've broadened my tastes in terms of television and films. I recently got hooked on Succession, a family drama revolving around a media mogul but written by the same guys who did Peep Show. It's dramatic, awfully painful to watch at moments, everyone is an asshole – it's great. I also watch K-drama now – I am just passionate about pop culture.
